Our Story

Our Story | Bloom Shakalaka | Artisan Flowers in Lakeland, FL

For the last decade Laura Helm has been creating magical events with Ashton Events. Past clients continued to request that her event blooms be offered on a regular basis. Not wanting to put too much on her plate (you'd be laughing if you knew her), she was hesitant. However, the planted seed of the idea officially sprouted after Laura spent a lot of time with flower friends at Team Flower. The idea continued to grow when she went on a whirlwind adventure with her friend Jenn and stumbled upon a cute coffee + flower shop.

Two years went by before she found the courage to speak the dream aloud. Laura got new neighbors about that time (hi Jon + Sarah!), and spent many a late night hearing them dream up their vision for a food hall in their town of Lakeland, Florida.

The Bucklew's found a building, and the vision for the Joinery began to take shape. As their dream expanded, the sprout began to grow roots. Laura traveled to Native Poppy, and got to meet (and shadow) the rad owner - Natalie Gill. While Ashton Events has always had a very refined, romantic aesthetic (hello weddings!), Bloom's brand allows Laura to showcase the more playful and peppy side of her personality!

Laura is pumped to have the opportunity to spread flower magic with both enthusiasm and intentionality.

OUR MANTRA

At Bloom Shakalaka, we want to be known as the funky, fresh flower shop whose mission is to spread joy. We believe that every single bloom is a miracle of both strength and hope - and we love getting to offer that to others. We want to know your story and help you create the perfect moment of encouragement. Just know, Bloom Shakalaka is not too cool for school. Regardless of the reason you need the flowers, we want to make them happen!

If you are in need of a pick me up, please do not hesitate to stop in and smell the flowers. Smells are free! Our hip house of blooms will also feature locally made gifts, such as jewelry, shirts, candles and a card wall.

This is going to be ranunculus, so don’t miss out!
